A long-term project unfolds in Tyre, South Lebanon, capturing the annual “Ashura” commemoration event, with a particular focus on the ritual of "Tatbir”. Once a year, a group of individuals takes to the streets, engaging in the act of self-flagellation using sharp tools like swords and razors. Initiating the ritual with small wounds on their heads, they traverse the streets of Sour, chanting mournful hymns dedicated to the suffering of Imam Hussein in the Battle of Karbala (10, 680 AD). This small but fervent group practices an extreme form of ritual that draws opposition from many, including religious figures, yet remains unstoppable.
