A Shroud Is a Cloth –
Video Commission for Adrian Pepe
Dubai, 2025
I was commissioned by artist Adrian Pepe to create a video piece for his solo exhibition A Shroud Is a Cloth, presented by NIKA Projects in Dubai. The exhibition explores the symbolism of the shroud as a transitional object—connecting land, body, ritual, and memory through the medium of wool.
Responding to Adrian’s material-led practice, which draws on ancestral methods of textile-making and the cultural legacy of sheep herding in the Levant, the video offers a sensory and poetic extension of the works on view. Filmed across landscapes and studio processes, it weaves together the physicality of wool with themes of ecology, mourning, and transformation.
The piece was conceived as a moving image meditation—a shroud in motion—revealing the tactile intimacy and cyclical nature of Adrian’s work. It was shown as part of the exhibition, offering viewers an immersive audiovisual dimension that resonated with the installation’s quiet intensity.

Utility of Being – Video Commission for Adrian Pepe
2023 – Dubai Design Week, Dubai Design District (d3)
In 2023, I was commissioned by Adrian Pepe to create a video piece for his installation Utility of Being, exhibited during Dubai Design Week at Dubai Design District (d3). The work reflects on the intersection of material culture, identity, and the body through the transformation of raw wool into sculptural, wearable forms.
Shot in close dialogue with Adrian’s process, the video explores the sensorial and performative dimensions of his practice—how garments become vessels of memory, labor, and protection. The piece captures the making of these wool-based forms and their quiet interaction with the human figure, suspended between utility and abstraction.
Premiering as part of The Wool Project, curated by the Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council, the video was presented alongside Adrian’s textile works, offering a contemplative audiovisual layer to the installation’s themes of care, craft, and the reimagining of traditional materials.
